Nature-based Solutions & Green Infrastructure
As climate change bites, water is at the forefront. A promising approach to adapting to - and eventually mitigating - climate change is to rapidly scale up investment in nature-based solutions and green infrastructure. That is to say, appreciating that nature provides services that rival that provided by ‘grey infrastructure’ — along with a whole host of other benefits. The Water Fund model, now in 20 countries and counting, offers a promising means to not only scale up nature-based solutions, but see them reach the sort of scale that will e required to ensure water security (and other public goods) for future generations.
In order to provide an avenue for the voice of those actually struggling with implementing nature-based solutions in the ‘real-world’, David led an effort for The Nature Conservancy to assemble an interactive ‘introductory package’ on NbS and green infrastructure.
The focus for this work was on practitioners — those struggling with the day-to-day of articulating a green agenda, designing NbS or implementing green infrastructure.
With water as a key conduit of climate change — and at the heart of thinking about climate resilience — the package focuses specifically on issues around water management and alternative approaches to deal with growing water demands, increased variability and, on occasion, diminishing resources.
