Mainstreaming Innovation

Starting and growing a social enterprise that develops customised ICT projects means David has strong insights into the real world challenges of nurturing and mainstreaming innovation. A dozen years — forty projects — fifteen countries — two continents. Flagship projects for the UN in Vietnam, for AfD in Cambodia, for the Mozambican government and for the World Bank in the DRC.

Facilitation & Moderation

From designing multi-day partnership trainings to moderating events for 200 people, David has worked extensively through Africa, Europe and Latin America - in four languages. Clients include the UN, DFID, large NGOs and governments. You may recognise him from the Stockholm Water Week, the World Water Forums or Africa Utility Week.

Urban Sanitation

From rapporteur for the first global FSM conference in South Africa, to research on urban sanitation partnerships across East and Southern Affica in the early 2000s, David is a known figure in the sanitation community and eager to keep contributing. Currently working on sanitation financing and sanitation & climate change.

Water Utility Reform & Regulation

Whether supporting the World Bank with utility reform in Zimbabwe, working with the African Forum of Utility Regulators, or designing feedback and monitoring systems for Mozambique’s national water regulator, David has long experience in the thorny challenges of utility reform and regulation.

Sector Financing

From World Bank Group publications on output-based aid, to guidance on performance-based contracting for the German Development Agencies, David has worked at the micro level. Developing pan-African and regional financing strategies for the Africa Water Infrastructure Programme ensures a macro level view too.

Nature-based Solutions & Water Security

Working on Water Funds across five continents from 2019 to 2021 with TNC has been insightful. With colleagues David built and deployed a multi-day online training course on NbS & green infrastructure. Training ranged from stakeholder engagement in Dakar to sustainable finance in Mexico, from collective action on groundwater in Latin America to building corporate coalitions in Indonesia.
